Mount Carleton
A challenging mix of Acadian woods and mountain peaks, Mount Carleton has more than 17,000 ha (42,000 acres) of pristine wilderness waiting for today’s explorer. Our habitat is home to more wild animal species than any other part of the province. Mount Carleton is also a dark sky preserve, committing to protect and preserve the night sky by applying strict lighting guidelines to reduce light pollution. A botanist’s eye will also discover a number of rare plants, including Alpine blueberry and Bigelow’s sedge on the slopes of Mount Carleton itself.
World Pond Hockey
The World Pond Hockey Championship was first held in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick in 2002. From humble beginnings during that first ever event in 2002 that saw 40 teams compete, most of which were from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Maine, the event has grown to feature 120 teams from around the world. The 2009 event is scheduled for February 19-22, 2009.
Fiddlers on the Tobique
First it was just the river run, but as it expanded, there were jam sessions, fiddle workshops, then a dandy concert, a pancake breakfast where the fiddlers play for the cooks, an old time dance, a lovely church service, and we also started a wonderful week long fiddle camp to teach kids and grownups how to play the fiddle! Over 80 graduated last year from the fiddle camp. Now we need a new fiddle camp to take the overflow students! Also see the blog site here.
